Birchwood Medical Practice

The practice history dates back to the beginning of the 20th century when one of the former senior partners followed a family tradition of doctoring in Horley. As the growth of Horley led to an increased list of patients, so too did the number of doctors.

We transferred into the Kings Road surgery in 1976 and in May 2005, after many years of planning, moved into the current premises known as Birchwood Medical practice.

Since 2009, Dr Elango Vijaykumar is the senior partner of the practice.

Birchwood Medical practice is one of the 18 practices in the East Surrey Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

Planned Staff Training Event

Please note the surgery will be closed from 1pm on Tuesday 27th March for staff training. If you require medical assisstance after 1pm, please call 01306 267113. The surgery will reopen at the normal time of 8.30am the following morning.

 Citizen Aid

We would like to bring to our Patients attention the information that can be gained from Citizen Aid. Citizen Aid is a charity based at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham. It aims to educate people in how do deal with emergency situations such as terrorist incidents, and instances of mass violent crime. Their “Run, Hide, Tell” instruction is being promoted across the country via social media and the internet. As stated on their website:

“citizenAID is a simple, logical system of immediate actions. It is designed to guide the public to react safely, to pass effective messages to the emergency services, to prioritise the injured and to give life-saving first aid. This combination of effective organisation and immediate treatment will save lives”.

This initiative is supported by the emergency services and cross-government agencies. They are also involved in educating younger school children with a specially written book.

Visit for further information, and to find out more about their pocket guide and mobile app.
